Just encountered this yesterday while doing some updates. Node version is unrelated. It's watchify >= 1, or specifically that 0.10.x uses Browserify 4 and 1.x uses 5. There are some breaking changes there and I know other browserify tools have seen failing tests (thlorenz/browserify-shim#78).
Submitting a PR now to address this temporarily by scoping the watchify version more tightly. Until @nikku cuts a release you can just change the version on your side to "~0.10.2".

Thanks for reporting and investigating guys. I released a bug fix release v0.6.1 of this library that fixes the problem by merging pull request #10.

Seems not to work yet. Strange errors while performing npm install (tried both in Mac and Windows).
Can you confirm that running the karma-brp example after a clean git clone of the project should work?
