I don't quite understand your reply. In my example I use foo through args, foo is set to out. If I remove args. before foo I don't get this warning.

There is no such "use" through args. In nix language literally you use args, and select the args attribute set via the name foo.

In this code example you can write

{ ... }@args : { out = args.foo; }

In nix language you can write some names in { } as a part of lambda formal arguments. If you already do this, why use args to access it again? That's definitely a "dead" code. Just use foo directly and that's the usage of lambda formal arguments.
