You don't have a packaging system like rpm or dpkg that can report it?
from numactl.
in our environment we deal with a mix of different platforms and package management systems. even though package managers like rpm and dpkg can report the version, there are several reasons why we'd prefer the tool to provide this information.
the versioning schemes used by packaging systems are not always consistent. also relying on packaging system means our software is tightly coupled with the underlying system. in contrast, having the tool report its own version is a simple and elegant solution that works regardless of the platform or packaging system. it's also fairly common practice.
it would be very helpful if you could add a similar feature to numactl. this would make it easier for us and other users in similar situations to use numactl in diverse environments
