I just got the latest nightly from the neovim releases page, seems the homebrew formula is very stale (which I didn't realise). Everything works with the latest version installed 👍 . I'll close this out. Thanks for helping debug this.

- Can you tell us the language that you used together with the error messages ?
- Did you try compiling neovim from source and updating to latest master ?

Hi @vigoux thanks for the quick response, I've tried it in Java and in Go and get a syntax error in both.
I haven't compiled it from source I use the nightly version via homebrew. I'm not sure how far the formula lags behind master. I'm currently at HEAD-91e41c8

Can you try updating to the very latest master ?
I think the issue is related to the treesitter runtime being too old.
EDIT: You commit is neovim/neovim@91e41c8, the commit you at least need to be at is neovim/neovim@8349192
