This is a known issue #9192 when the ScriptCanvas backend was changed to generate Lua as a product, the debugger was not updated to remain functional. One possibility here is to look at the way the LuaIDE does debugging and bring that into the ScriptCanvas debugger, this would enable the ability to set breakpoints and add watches to the data/variables directly in ScriptCanvas.
