Hi @frantwo,
The onSelectionChanged event for the Word content control is still in preview. We have no timeline for release, so I would recommend not using this API in a production add-in.
Please go to UserVoice and either create a new request asking for the release of this feature or upvote an existing one. UserVoice helps us prioritize feature work based on community needs.
I'm closing this issue since the request belongs on UserVoice. Please reply if you think that's incorrect or you need something else. Thanks!

I'll transfer this issue to the office-js-snippets repo, where we store samples that are used in Script Lab and get placed in these reference docs. If you haven't tried using Script Lab to explore the APIs, I'd recommend it. @frantwo The preview events and event handling in Word are known to be buggy, so we don't have a sample. See if you can use the events in the Common APIs: Detect changes ...
