I guess the client side does not have to send auth info every time since websocket is a connection oriented protocol and so at the time of connection all the headers can be transferred to WebSocketSession through HttpSessionHandshakeInterceptor on the server-side. Then in every call the server-side can get the auth info by calling getPrincipal method.

@BijanVan I tried to get something like this working and discovered this tutorial about Spring Security and WebSockets. It even shows that things can work with OAuth. The only downside is it's all Spring MVC, there's no WebFlux involved.

I tried adding implementations of AbstractSecurityWebSocketMessageBrokerConfigurer and WebSocketMessageBrokerConfigurer to this project, and it doesn't work:

Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.web.servlet.handler.SimpleUrlHandlerMapping

I asked the Spring Security team about this. Rob Winch responded:

I'm sorry to say that there currently is no built-in support for WebFlux + WebSocket + Spring Security. We'd love to get to it, but we are at max capacity right now.

Because of this, I'm closing this issue.
