That file is from maxmind. You could use disable the maxmind module and delete that file and instead use the default from resolution service (hostip).

Hi,

my shared hosting has a limit of 10MB per file size, City DB is well over that limit, so I have tried to use a Country DB (renamed GeoIP.dat to GeoLiteCity.dat), since it is smaller.

However, in debug logs it says that dat DB is not in correct format and that it expects City DB instead.

As a result, UNKNOWN/Unknown is recorder for country and city.

Any chance to resolve this somehow?
Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately the whole idea about Maxmind DB is accuracy, default reporting is completely incorrect (reporting EU locations as US). Or maybe I do not understand your proposal correctly (?).

No that is correct. Maxmind is the way to go. Maybe run OWA on another hoster?

Currently not an option :(

Not sure how Piwik folks did it (interchangable compatibility between City and Country, just need to rename filename to match).

But, OWA seems to be more lightweight than Piwik in terms of resources, it is perfect for low-end shared hosting systems in my opinion, but got this problem.

Thanks anyway for help,

Today I have installed OWA on my VPS, and it is working fine with light DB version, just like Piwik does.

So, there must be some (mis)configuration in my shared hosting environment that prevents OWA to properly work with Country DB, maybe an anti-virus scanner (which is present and mandatory according to tech support), or something else affecting some OWA files and proper functioning. Anyway, I had to revert to Piwik, which does not have this issue.

From OWA debug log:

04:36:08 11/06/14 [] Invalid database type; lookupLocation() method expects City database. // #0 /htdocs/owa/modules/maxmind_geoip/classes/maxmind.php(115): Net_GeoIP-lookupLocation('xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx')

xxx = hidden IP address

Thanks,
