After discussion with @kdudka, we have agreed to remove the rescan functionality from the admin interface completely because nobody used it anyway.

The show_failed=True functionality can be safely removed, because the only user will be removed in #119 and it is broken anyway.

Note that #119 is only a partial fix as it removes code for the 2. b. section in the issue description. My knowledge of OSH is not deep enough to answer the rest of the questions nor I want to work on their resolution. Therefore, I'm unassigning this issue.
