We didn't in the previous releases, since that would allow people to modify their client and still have a "release version" (ergo, conflicts, desyncs, etc). Though this argument was really void, since people could still do a make RELEASE= and get the same result.
So I think we settled to include this in the next release, to facilitate people wanting to build the game from source on some other platform, perhaps...
