It's possible to enter the command directly, but you'd get this warning the first time (from OrbStack instead of Terminal):

I figured that iTerm's warning when opening a script looks less "scary" than this AppleScript warning shown by macOS.

I agree that such warning out of nowhere would be suspicious, but if it pops up as a direct result of user interaction (clicking on 'Open Terminal'), I would argue that users will understand the reason behind the prompt…

What I am afraid of is that if I select 'Suppress this message permanently', it will disable the warning across iTerm and not just for OrbStack, potentially exposing me from risks from some other rogue app.

That's a good point. I'll reconsider the decision to use a temporary script for iTerm.

(For what it's worth, Terminal.app doesn't have that warning at all, so I don't think it's necessarily much of a security issue. I'm not what the policies are for sandboxed apps opening files in Terminal or iTerm, but non-sandboxed apps can run whatever commands they want anyway without going through a terminal app.)

I've thought about this some more and honestly, I think the current method of running scripts is the better trade-off given the context about iTerm's warning that I added above. First impressions matter a lot, and the AppleScript warning makes it look like the app could do a lot more with iTerm than the script warning does.
