I do not remember all the details now, but hits to PLT indeed require special handling. Problem is that there is no 'call' from PLT entry to real function, but there is 'jmp'. Additionally, the first hit to PLT goes through dynamic linker symbol resolver, and generally speaking, I want to see time spend there.
