+1 for this, please be honest on the features page, wasted an hour trying to see what was wrong when it simply was not there. Would be great to have, a lot of people used Mac .me for precisely this feature before they shut it down June 30th 2012 - lots of people would love to have this right now and they are using evil FB instead.

The main thing is the galleries, album names are folder names, pictures are in the folders.
I believe the owncloud API has a way to share the galleries the same as Files.
This would be a HUGE win for owncloud. :-)

i created a Lib/Base.min.php file without the templatesystem and js. So you have the OC php classes for your Data requests and so you can work with the oc share api and create Web Widgets. But the importent Thing is you don't hurt any api constructs and User rights. The User feels Free to customize the Way he would like to share the pics.

Ah - yes this is perfect. You should definitely post this to the mailing list if you have time. If people can share galleries like with Files (generate URL, with optional password and expiration date) then it will be better than it was when it was working before. :-)

Now temp thumbnail creation, subfolders shown, password protect, smaller OC Code;

This looks great. In owncloud, can we share galleries just like the "Teilin" link in owncloud files?
So we can email a URL to friends, and they can see it.
Optional password required for the URL (in owncloud), and expiration date for the link.

If we have that, it is back to what it was before and I would love to see it committed!

This Widget is much more and better than a shared Gallery. With a Little Bit of Code you can Integrate this where ever you want.
If you look in the Personal settings of OC on my posted demo there is the codesnippet. So easy to integrate and to configure. You also can use the Widget in much different ways. E.g. Open by clicking button, modal show and so on.

Hey, just tried the functionality. It's great especially for people not connected to the cloud as user, e.g. mom,dad,grandpa etc. watching their grandchilds pictures; though I liked the user gallery so far.
When will this be available as standard feature in owncloud?
A big thing I'd like to have is commented pictures. I see you have the textbars activated, they show the filenames right now. Will it be possible to add comments (as owncloud user only)? Also, will videos somehow work alongside the pictures?

I really appreceate your hard work on this!

Just tried OC5 and have to notice that this still isn't in there...

Promising it on the feature list as a supported feature and then releasing three major versions without it is, well, not very user-friendly...

And why is there this great new share framework when the files app seems to be the only one really using all of it, and the others only using the internal sharing part...?

I tested libasys code at http://demo.libasyscloud.de and http://showcase.libasys.de/widget/. If you integrate it into OwnCloud it would solve this issue.

@jancborchardt currently sharing a gallery to another user will add that gallery only to his pictures app. It will not show up in the 'Shared' folder of the files app. What is the UX take on this? How should gallery sharing work for public links? should public users see a pictures app? I'm not really sure. Also see #436 which will add the slideshow to core when the pictures app is enabled. This slideshow will also work for public file shares ... so how would you like to have it?

With #436 implemented, for me, I would see no need for a separate gallery sharing feature anymore (actually I don't even see the need for the whole separate gallery menu entry anymore then).

I am totally agree with Randolf. It makes not really sense to have a seperated image gallery app. the main feature of oc is saving and sharing files within a cloudsystem. I think the only feature is to use the fs_cache table in the db and the integrated permission systems! The way i see it, it makes not really sense to scan all folders for available image!
You can organize this with your own folder structure using images and share this for the public!

@RandolfCarter @libasys ownCloud is built as an app platform and is aimed at people who don’t know what »file managers« are. The purpose of the Pictures app is to have a nice way to browse pictures. Files is a kitchen-sink like file browser for all kinds of files and it does not replace the need for a dedicated Pictures app.

@butonic 1) the shared Album should also show up in the receivers Files/Shared folder, so they can sync it. At least for Pictures and Music, the Files app is the »database« and should hence display everything which is visible in these apps as well. 2) Public users should not see a pictures app or a navigation when an album is shared. But the layout should use the big images display which the Pictures app uses.
And yes, awesome that the great slideshow now works everywhere, including public shares! :)

One question: Why we haven't two 2 views like "Listview and Thumbview"? So the user can switch between thumbnails and list view. But for this feature we need a more flexible (fluid) Layout to the files app. At the moment it is hard to realize this feature cause html tables not very flexible. Why not using divs, spans with float? So it's easier to have a mobile layout version using mobiles like tablets etc. My big problem at the moment is I can't share this feature with the oc community, cause i rewritten the js code of the files app to get the feature "shared by link with list and thumbview" to work. (Version 5.0.11) But for the future my hope OC comes more fluid ;)!
