These projects are example templates that you may use to start your own sites from. They are not intended to cover all use cases; rather, they should be customized as needed.
A documentation PR that described what steps are needed to move the config directory to another location would be most welcome, though.

Hi @aaronbauman, what's the use case for changing the export directory from config to something else? Pantheon's pattern tends to be picking names, like web for the web root or master for the default git branch, and sticking with them.

I have a config/dev directory and a config/prod directory to manage config changes between environments.
