Faced the same issue

Using scope:true in this directive definition would solve the issue:

return {
link: link,
restrict: 'A'
};

That will create a new non-isolated scope.

@mich4s in your second example, the ng-repeat is creating new scopes for each directive. Thats why it's working

Well it was quite long, and I've made my own simple directive, but still @SiddarthaAdusumalli answer is helpful.

Can we have this updated with the scope: true so there can be multiple directives on a page?
