This is mostly attributable to the plug servers being unstable - I've had issues with reloading on a 'real' account and not being able to connect all day. When the site is running well, I don't see this happen.

As is said above, plugAPI is still being developed and plug's servers are still very unstable as it is with the socket connectivity.
