This is pretty much by design. There is an implied transaction even for select foo(). That gets rolled back on error.

Thanks. I don't like to ask for help on issue threads, but I can't find an alternate place to ask questions: Is there a typical way to log and capture progress messages of a single PL/R function call, returning all of the messages generated up to the point of failure? Thanks for your consideration.

you can log to the backend log or the client log using THROWNOTICE_CMD
