Facing the same issue with Atom 1.53. I don't have any other on save plugins.
For me, sometimes it is able to recover in a few seconds. I noticed that in busy-signal it is only showing it as working for 172ms. So I think there is some other place it is hanging up. I'll try to debug more on weekend.

Prettier should be able to run asynchronously, not freeze the editor until it's done

OK, but I now find VSCode does everything I need and is a whole lot less
