Apt-get update parameter about puppetlabs-apt HOT 3 CLOSED

When a change occurs to apt::source Puppet notifies the apt-get update Exec so in that case an update will be triggered.

There is no way for Puppet to determine what you call a 'first run' and depending on your perspective a 'first run' might vary from the first time the machine boots to the first second after day change etc. so modelling that behaviour is nearly impossible.

So I'll set "always_apt_update" to false/off and let the apt::source handle things. I'm using an ENC now that places all new instances into a "default" hostgroup and I built a firstrun module for this group. It makes sure updates have run at the beginning of a systems lifecycle. Then we reclassify the systems to their appropriate hostgroup where we will let apt::source handle things.
