It is possible to make input work on a webworker. If I am understanding you correctly, what you have described is not a workable solution because the main thread cannot write to the Emscripten file system. There are a few different libraries that are designed to assist with this:
https://github.com/alexmojaki/sync-message (Atomics or service worker + XHR)
https://github.com/WebReflection/coincident/ (Atomics)
Probably we should make an example using one of these libraries to implement input. But nobody's gotten around to it.
