If I understand that correctly, you are speaking of "nonblocking" I/O with timeout=0.

I see it always calls recv() on the socket and only checks for a socket.timeout exception, but the timeout value is not actually used... An implementation that uses select to do the waiting would do more that you are expectig (very similar to serialposix.py).

@Hexxeh do you have some interesting test cases? ;-) I committed an implementation that works similar to the posix platform, so it should be better at timeouts now.

However it may still need to have a nonblocking() method to fully support asynchronous IO using an "external" select (i.e. to set the socket into non-blocking mode).
