I'm short on time to look at the example in detail, but have you tried the new consider_namespace_packages option? Perhaps together with --import-mode=importlib?

from pytest.

I should've mentioned that, but --import-mode=importlib solved the problem for me. But I'm still curious if this is expected behaviour or if it should be fixed.

with --import-mode=prepend (the default) yes, pytest adds directories to sys.path in order to import the modules inside.

@nicoddemus Yes, but two questions still remains.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. But according to this doc page, src/my_ns/ should not have been added to sys.path.
And why specificaly the option --doctest-modules changes this behaviour looks odd to me, considering that it seems to be unrelated to the way pytest add paths to sys.path.
If you also consider that behaviour strange and worth looking into I'll gladly do so :)
