Ok, so here's a new vmprof flame chart.
The most obvious culprit here is in hpack, and specifically in the Huffman-code there. We spend 14% of our execution time doing Huffman decoding, which is really altogether too long. We should aim to optimise there as a first instance.

We also spend 1/3 of the program's execution time in general doing HPACK decoding. That's not totally unreasonable, but it makes it a really obvious target for improvement.
