I had this problem with all torrent clients so I do not touch the original filenames.

Do you need this feature to prevent incomplete files to be indexed by other software such as Plex ? Or how do you use it ?

@Destroyarr I absolutely hate having files saved with their original file names, so that's why I make qBittorrent add the !qB extension. I've downloaded torrents where the person who created those torrents perhaps thought that those torrents had downloaded completely, but then you watch a movie and it pixelates at points, meaning that it most likely was not fully downloaded, or the file wasn't checked for proper completion. I think what happened is that I had another torrent with the same torrent name, same .torrent filename, so it saved to the same directory, and so when I checked the files of the one torrent, the files are all there, finished, and with no .!qB extension. So qbittorrent seems to be working okay.

OK this is what the copilot had to say about this post.

The .![qb] extension is used by qBittorrent to mark files that are still in the process of downloading¹. Once the download is complete, qBittorrent removes this extension. If you find that a file does not have the .![qb] extension and is supposed to be complete, but you experience issues like pixelation during playback, it could mean that the file was not downloaded correctly or is corrupt.

To help someone with this issue, you can suggest the following steps:
1. Force Recheck: In qBittorrent, right-click the torrent and select "Force Recheck". This will make qBittorrent verify the downloaded data against the torrent file.
2. Download Again: If the file is indeed incomplete or corrupt, consider re-downloading the torrent. Make sure to download from a reliable source to avoid corrupt files.
3. Check for Duplicate Downloads: Ensure there are no duplicate torrents with the same name being downloaded to the same directory, as this can cause conflicts and result in incomplete files.

For more detailed troubleshooting, you can refer to guides and FAQs on using qBittorrent effectively². Remember, always download content responsibly and legally.

It seems you're encountering an issue where qBittorrent is not renaming the .!qB files after a recheck, even though the files are complete. This could be due to a few reasons:

  1. Caching Issue: Sometimes, qBittorrent might have a caching issue where it doesn't recognize the completed files immediately. A restart of the software might help clear the cache⁴.

  2. Software Bug: There have been reported issues on qBittorrent's GitHub page where force recheck does not work if files are updated after adding the torrent⁴⁵. This might be what you're experiencing.

  3. File Conflict: If there's a partially completed file with the same name, qBittorrent might avoid overwriting it by not renaming the .!qB files. This is to prevent data loss in case the complete file isn't actually complete⁵.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  • Restart qBittorrent: Close the application and let it exit gracefully, then restart it. This can help refresh the software's state and potentially resolve the issue⁴.
  • Re-download Metadata: If the torrent was added but the metadata wasn't downloaded properly, qBittorrent might not perform the recheck correctly. Try re-downloading the torrent file and let qBittorrent download the metadata before running the force recheck².
  • Check File Paths: Ensure that the file paths are correct and that there are no duplicate files with the same name in the directory where qBittorrent is saving the downloaded files³.

If these steps don't work, you might want to check for updates to qBittorrent or consider reaching out to their support community for more assistance. Remember to always use torrent software responsibly and in compliance with laws and regulations.
