I have worked on implementing something similar. This is what it looks as of now. The displayed values are:
- Current Value
- Mean over a user-defined range, default to 400 ms
- standard deviation over same range as mean (expected poison std of mean == sqrt(mean))
The major difference to the proposed change is that the values are displayed on the figure rather than the side panel. This was easier to implement, as we do not have to refer to the scope data through the side panel. Happy to discuss any suggestions before I submit a pull request!

For qt3scan we should look more into the following function to allow a user to click on a scan and get the exact count rate at that pixel: https://matplotlib.org/stable/api/image_api.html#matplotlib.image.AxesImage.get_cursor_data
