I do like the idea, One thing you can do now to emulate that behavior is set your target div to display: none
in the css. This way, the div doesn't show on the page and you can still do your thing.

its more to remove the dependency on a DOM element for making use of the functionality, as behind the scene the element has its text extracted then the actual logic is run on there, so it would be good if there was just a way to run the logic on a string rather than NEEDING the DOM element.
