The same issues are present in the VICE SDL2 version on Windows, so i think is an upstream problem. Haven't tried the Old WinVICE or the GTK version.

It looks like there is a VICE option to reset the counter on machine reset
which is on by default. I will add the same option to BMC64 so you can
turn it off.
I could add my own reset menu option so the counter appears to be 000 but
would allow you to rewind below 0. (It would just be an offset and would
act more like the real thing). The current VICE 'reset' menu option
actually re-inits the whole tape attachment which is why it goes to 0.
I'll keep this in mind for next release. It would be a nice feature.

Looks like VICE developers already though of this. I see there is already
a 'reset counter' function that should do what you want. I will add the
menu option for next release.

I added the functions just now (was very quick). Can you try replacing
your kernel with this? If they work as you expect, I will include the
changes in the next release.

Ok the changes has worked, as for the rewind before the 000 position we need to press the "stop" command after the "reset counter" command, then it start to rewind correctly, but i think is not an issue. The machine reset without resetting the tape state has worked correctly. I've encoutered a crash pressing the wrong command on the datassette (rewind instead of stop) on a game request that freezed the emulator in the menu, i'll investigate further to see if i can reproduce with other games and to see if is a statusbar visibility problem, a warp mode problem or anything else. Thank You again.
