We spiked on this task and discovered a few things:
Hashnode offers a similar feature. @dthyresson even went back and forth with their team to update the API and get the GraphQL mutation working.
But, the problem is this task starts to introduce some complexity on our end and potential confusion to our users.
Suddenly, we have 2 calls to action: (1) sign up for the newsletter and (2) receive blog updates as soon as something is published. It would be better if we could streamline. One message. One call to action. = Sign up for our newsletter.
The newsletter is managed through MailChimp and blog updates are managed through Hashnode. Now, we're maintaining 2 lists. A user can unsubscribe from blog updates on Hashnode, but would need to unsubscribe from the newsletter separately. Not only does this become harder to manage, but is potentially confusing and frustrating for our users.
Something else to consider: we're releasing content and blog posts in sync with our 2-week sprints. We're also sending out newsletters in sync with our 2-week sprint. Therefore, it feels redundant to send out 2 separate emails at the same time with information overlapping. The newsletter should take a higher priority because it includes everything we're doing and is our best marketing tool.
If we get to the point where we're releasing more blog content, I'd rather increase the cadence of our newsletters from fortnightly to weekly to acomodate.
