The hardware configuration you can use for test net is the following:
- 2 core CPU (64 bits processor)
- 8 GB RAM
- 8 GB SWAP
- 40GB SSD
In terms of compiling directly, there shouldn't be any difference with respect to performance; it's just a matter of convenience. Building a docker container is done with one command.

This helps, thank you for the quick response. How much SSD and SWAP will we need for the mainnet? Let's say on average for a year?
