FWIW you must not be on a recent version because the message is different now.
So, maybe try updating to latest and see if that works. You might be on v1.x?
There was also a bit of work done on this feature a few months back. There were some issues related to our async-everything transition which have been resolved at that time.

I'm on V2.8.12 , I'll update to the latest (2.9.12) and see if it makes a difference.

Ok, good.
Surprised it was as late as 2.8.19 that this wasn't working... Ugh. And surprised nobody else (but the bug report at the time) had run into that.
