For those who encounter this problem, it seems that replacing the clang++ provided by ROCm 5.7 with the one from the LLVM release (version 17 from https://apt.llvm.org/) works.

You just need to set HIP_CLANG_PATH to the newly installed clang++.

That's a generic clang bug not limited to HIP. It also happens with C++.

I can reproduce it with ROCm 5.7 but it is not reproducible with clang trunk, so most likely it has been fixed in clang trunk.

Just tested with a recent Rocm mainline build, and was not able to reproduce the issue. So it seems the fix has propagated from upstream into the Rocm release builds.
