Sorry, I didn't see your issue ... weird selective blindness when I only look at the code tab.

Yes, I can remove those packages and hopefully the build time will decrease.

Upon more thought, if I remove those packages, the R users will have to take extra steps to get the addin installed for RStudio.

Have you tried installing the binaries of packages rather than compiling from source?

I think all the packages needed are precompiled here for ubuntu as a ppa

Yeah that makes sense. I was using Alpine for my docker image, which doesn't have binaries, but I'll see if ubuntu works without producing a massive image. Thank you!
