Sir, we had already tried many different players before finalizing MediaElement.js player, every player had its flaws. after testing a lot with different browsers we came to conclusion MediaElement.js is the one we can go with.
Here's a list of players we tested:

  1. jPlayer
  2. jwPlayer
  3. MediaElement
  4. projeckktor
  5. VideoJS
  6. FlowPlayer

There are 2 kind of players - HTML5 and FLASH most of above packages support.

May be for some videos, because of some bug, these player packages might be loading wrong version.

Have a look at - https://github.com/kaltura/mwEmbed

Not sure if its a general player or works with Kaltura Videos only

We need to spend some more time here:

  1. http://html5video.org/wiki/HTML5_Video_Player_Comparison
  2. http://praegnanz.de/html5video/

A player is critical component so we need to revisit it in next Saturday meetup.

For media, you should select an HTML5 play and fallback on Flash because there are still many browsers there w/o proper HTML5 support AND most themes for WordPress aren't written for HTML5.

For Audio files, I've always been partial to XSPF http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/ because of its simplicity, light weight and opensource.

@OC2PS

Currently we are using HTML5 with Flash player as fallback.

A common issue we are facing is most player-libraries are not playing mp4 files nicely in Google Chrome. Surprisingly, same mp4 videos renders nicely in IE.

In firefox sometimes, complete mp4 files gets downloaded (buffered) before "playing" starts (can create problem for big videos)

So at some point, I think video-player choice will take backstage and we will need to surrender to video format differences in web-browsers (a video will need to have minimum mp4, webm and flv version)...

The video player has been fine for a while now and we've never had complaints about it. I feel this issue stands unimportant, as of now. We can reopen or create another one when we get there.
