Hi! Sorry this took a while, I've just pushed a commit that helps with this cf3b53a. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about UIkit internals to allow symbols in the triggers for the modal. My workaround is adding a titlealt key, which you can set to something that doesn't contain symbols, for example CPlusPlus, this will just be used internally and not displayed to the user, and will allow everything to work as you'd expect.

Here's an example of using it:

Hi Sam, thanks for making this template—naturally, I chose it so I wouldn't have to change the "Hi, I'm Sam" banner 😅

The issue is not with UIkit itself, rather that the modal's ID property can only contain alphanumeric characters and underscores. I was delighted to find Hugo has a replaceRE function, which can quickly replace any non-word characters, /\W/, with an underscore. The other option is to use safeHTMLAttr but personally I prefer the regex approach.

I'll make a pull request right away. Thanks again for this template, I'm looking forward to playing around with it some more!
