My current solution to this is to create a build script that includes a rm -r dest

from ui5-tooling.

Yep, I can use grunt, a script or any other dependency to do that...

My point is: cleaning the target folder is part of the build process! It makes no sense to have it as an extra step. If everybody uses something else to do it, why not having it as part of the build tool? Why creating extra scripts and extra dependencies when the build tool should do that?

IMO, this's a design flaw as my build folder might end up with garbage from older builds...

UI5 CLI v1.9.0 adds the --clean-dest parameter. Use it like this: ui5 build --clean-dest.
