I'm not opposed to the idea of adding more variants, but it might take a while before I get around to it.
I originally designed Melange without accessibility in mind. It was only recently that I started to pay attention to that, so I might update the palette in the future to have "objectively" better color contrast. If I do add a "hard" variant (darker background, saturated foreground colors) that'd be priority №1.
In the future, I'd also like to create a 256-color variant and a protan/deutan variant, but Melange is not very high on my list of priorities right now.
I'll work on this when I have more time.

Nice, my fork has a darker background and better color contrast (only dark variant has been modified), check it when you want.
