My take on this:
plot feature (from adata.obsm) on image
- for downscaled pngs this already works with scanpy
true, I think it's fine to have any feature-level visualization with the hires png. Don't really see a need to visualize the features with the tiff, but might be wrong here.
- plot overlays on image (e.g. segmentation)
this is definitely key, and would really look at napari for this. It could already provide some basic functionalities for cropping the interactive visualization and import the crop as img etc. Could make our life easy (maybe).
plot image crops (with features / overlays)
- useful to speed up plotting or view details
For features, this is already possible in scanpy (crop_coords argument) but again not for the tiff. For seg masks not. Again, possiblly napari would handle this case but might be wrong.

I think napari pretty much addressed this right #184 ?

Yes, together with the extract
function that allows to use scanpy plotting functions. I'm not sure about plotting image crops though, but if we get Napari to work easily this is not really needed.
Please keep this open untill I have an example plotting notebook so I can refer back to my earlier comment about which functions are needed

should be very easy to add crops in napari. Where can I find a working example for the segmentation crops?
