Hi RBruhn,
You are right that some parts can be confusing and there is no exact match. For the next iterations of the book I will put this in my todo list. For this special case "Debug module via git there are test files" I will try to add more explanation about the test directories and where are they coming from.
If you notice other places like this please add them as new issues.
