I like the "sys.path" option. Seems easy and would probably work in a lot of places. Agree?

How are you running the tests? There are two things in the Makefile for running tests. I personally recommend installing nose and using make nose.

Ok make nose works. The debhelper scripts for dh_auto_test look for make test, make check for running tests from the Makefile. Perhaps we should just move make nose into make test and use only this for testing?
