The selection chips workaround has been implemented in specklesystems/DesktopUI#16, but I'm not convinced this is the best solution. The combo box is not really being used as intended leading to some annoying behaviour. It may be worth creating a custom multiselect combo box for this purpose as it is reused in several parts of the ui (adding collaborators, adding an existing stream, selecting view / category filters)

there may be room for improvement, but it is functional and much better than it was. closing this for now!
