Stable serialVersionUID generation about javapoet HOT 3 CLOSED

I usually recommend that people hardwire the serialVersionUID to 1L and then increment it any time they make a serial-incompatible change. Is there something better we could do?

I'm thinking specifically of the jOOQ case where they needlessly and naively change the value on every single update. We don't rely on object serialization or anything, I only notice because we commit the generated files into source control (since they change so infrequently). Was just a random thought yesterday as a convenience.

However, I suppose most people are not checking the output source into version control so they wouldn't even notice if this value changed unexpectedly. Perhaps this isn't such a useful feature.
