This install seems to proceed successfully regardless of an answer so ideally this question should be omitted altogether.

After creating fake source (pointing to non-existent url) I'm trying to make a ruleset and got the same error as in #3 - is this intended? Do I have to have up and running source server in order to configure web interface?

Yes, you need a working source (web or upload) to create a ruleset.

Using https://rules.emergingthreats.net/open/suricata-2.0.1/emerging.rules.tar.gz as a source url doesn't change that.

Thanks, works now - seems like there's actually 4 mandatory steps in he setup. I got "Unable to join Elasticsearch server or no alerts" - not sure what exactly it means but it would be handy to see the exact address of elasticsearch server it failed to join.
