Yeah, that definitely seems like something the compiler is allowed to do. We
agree
that making the var volatile is the best fix, so that should happen for the next
release (hopefully this week).

Fixed in perftools 0.94. We ended up just making the var volatile, which seems
to
work fine.

Awesome thanks for looking at this so quickly (and for making Perftools
available in
the first place!). In response to gp..., I only noticed this in x86 emitted
code. I
did not check x86-64 code.
