@genio

Judging by your condescending response which amounted to "you're wrong because I say so" without explaining why VS licensing is an issue for Perl and whether that has been discussed with Microsoft, I am now sure that this issue will be dismissed in a similar manner so I will just go ahead and save you the trouble by closing it myself.

The crux of what I was trying to say there and what I was saying here before you blew me off is that open-source projects could get more exposure (and likely more contributors as a result) if they integrated native build systems for other platforms they decided to distribute themselves on, and if they followed certain conventions of those platforms when it comes to installation and configuration.

But it seems you prefer to fade into obsolescence by antagonizing users so I will leave you to it. Have a nice day.

Let me apologize for the condescending tone.

Your comment of If you are an "enterprise" as defined in your quote, then you also have Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft is where we disagree. Even though we disagree, I initially took the quote there to be one of like tone from you and was more terse in my response than warranted. I see now that it likely wasn't your intent and was a misinterpretation on my end.

Let me explain my response a bit more fully. Any company of a specific size or yearly gains cannot use the free version of VS. However, neither of those facts means they already license VS. This leaves them with no way of using that compiler without having to pay large sums in licensing fees. This prevents would-be users and thus we build our own compilers and system to ship along with agreeable licenses for use with Strawberry Perl, making the entirety usable by individuals and corporations alike.

Again, apologies.
