It is possible to override patterns at the language level:

"languageSettings": [
    { "languageId": "html",  "patterns": [ 
        { name: 'href', pattern: "/^\\b$/" }
    ] }
]

This will replace the href pattern for html file types to one that will not match anything.

Yes, thanks, that's what I ended up with. Sorry, forgot to update the issue to mention that I found this workaround.

What do you think about removing this default setting? It's really unexpected, it doesn't work for attributes in single quotes, it's really dangerous when used with frameworks like AngularJS where the href attribute may contain interpolation expressions:

<a href="{{$ctrl.getSomeVaule()}}">...</a>

That's what happened with me actually. Cspell found a type in a method name, and I corrected it everywhere except in such a template. AngularJS templates aren't type-checked, so I thought I at least could rely on spellchecking...
