I created svg.js because I could not find a SVG library that fitted my needs. In other words, that was lightweight and had a sensible syntax. Adding support for canvas would increase the the size and complexity of the library significantly, and thereby defeating its goal of being lightweight. The syntax of svg.js is also very much related to SVG.
A more logical step would be writing a new library that is dedicated to canvas but with the same syntax logic.
