What happens if you use close/1 to close the streams after reading (and optionally wrapping your code inside setup_call_cleanup/3 to ensure that streams are closed)?

Hello, @wouterbeek. So this will stop the memory leak, however this is not always an option. Sometimes I will need to keep a stream open and keep issuing requests and/or utilize the stream for other uses as well.

@wouterbeek : oops, silly me ... I was confusing two different streams in some example code I was reviewing. In light of that, my above comment is now irrelevant. Apparently I wasn't closing the stream, you're correct. Let me retest my code and reevalute the effectiveness of this thread afterwards.
