Hi Joël,
The default worker isn't configured for maximum throughput - you'll want to look at the :throttle-ms (default 200ms) and :eoq-backoff-ms (default ranges ~ > 600ms) options for the worker fn. For very large workloads you can also use the :nthreads option. You can see the worker docstring for info on all these.
In any case, you should be aware that the design I've employed offers good -throughput- performance, but no turn-around time guarantees. I wouldn't use this queue for work that needs to happen within a prescribed time window.
