If and when this becomes more modularized and with support for configuration, this seems like an obvious thing to be able to configure. I don't know if it's worth adding a solution that probably won't be long-term now with the provision that it would be necessary to reconfigure later; that's a question that can only be answered by the people that really need this. Personally I have no problem with it but that's mainly because I wouldn't be affected.
For the record, I have some ideas for, and have been playing around some, with a modularization solution. I still need to prove to myself that I can make it work before I'll show it off, though.

It is very much worth adding in. It is exactly what we need for the near-term until a config file is present which will address this issue. Even then, maybe we can take some pieces of your implementation and reuse (or reconfigure, as @commonquail mentioned) in version 1.0.
But it is hard to tell whether your solution is right for this project until either you explain the code architecture of the solution in more detail or submit a PR.
