Perhaps sharing should be done in a similar manner to G+ and Diaspora*; sharing with predefined groups.

So you can choose to share each post with anyone who follows you, or with a specific subset of followers.

This also requires asymmetric following, like twitter.

If you start following me, you'll get my public posts by default. I can then add you to groups or send private messages directly to you. If I want to receive posts from you, I'd follow you, and then you could choose what non-public posts you share with me.
